Privacy Policy
Last Updated: October 26, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Sideout ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and discloses your personal information when you use the Sideout application and related services (the "Services").
1. Information We Collect
When you use Sideout, we collect the following types of information:
- Account Information: Your name and email address (from your sign-in provider).
- Profile Information: Profile photos you upload, your display name.
- Activity Data: Team names, game scores, tournament results, and other content you create within the App.
- Photos and video: Photos and video clips you share within the App, including any tags or metadata.
- Chats and planned games: Messages you send in a crew chat, a league team chat or a league captains chat, the reactions you add, the times you vote for, whether you said you are in, maybe or out, and when you last opened a crew's chat.
- Co-ed tags: When a tournament or league plays a co-ed format, you or an organizer may mark you M or F on that roster so the format can be checked. The tag appears on that roster only.
- Safety information: Reports you file, including a copy of the reported message or photo, and the accounts you have blocked.
- Weather: The place a crew plays and the place and time of a planned game. We look up the conditions and the forecast for that spot so we can show them on the crew's board and alongside a planned game. We do not collect your device's location.
- Device Information: Push notification tokens (if you enable notifications), device type, and operating system.
- Sports waitlist: If you join the waitlist for more sports on sideoutsports.net, the email address you give, the sports you tick and any note you add. You do not need an account.
- Usage Data: When you last opened each chat, so the App can show you what is new. We do not use analytics tools and do not track how long you spend in the App.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Services.
- Display your profile, game history, and activity to your crew and tournament members.
- Send push notifications you've opted into (game updates, tournament alerts, new crew chat messages, and planned games).
- Review reported content and enforce our Conduct Policy.
- Respond to your comments, questions, and requests.
- Email you, if you joined the sports waitlist, when one of the sports you ticked goes live, and count how many people want each sport. We do not use the waitlist for anything else.
- Check each photo and video clip for adult or violent content when it is uploaded, and remove it if it fails.
- Detect, investigate and prevent fraudulent transactions and other illegal activities and protect the rights and property of Sideout and others.
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. Your information may be visible to other members of your crews and tournaments within the App. We use the following third-party services to operate:
- Firebase (Google Cloud): Authentication, data storage, hosting, and cloud functions.
- Apple/Google Push Notification Services: Delivery of push notifications to your device.
- KLIPY: GIF search in chat. When you search for GIFs, we send KLIPY your search terms and an identifier made from your account that doesn't tell KLIPY who you are. The GIFs you see load from KLIPY's servers.
- Google Cloud Vision and Video Intelligence: Each photo and video clip shared in the App is sent to Google to be checked for adult or violent content when it is uploaded.
- Apple WeatherKit: Conditions and forecasts. We send the latitude and longitude of the spot and the day we are asking about. Nothing that identifies you is sent.
We may also disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities.
4. Data Retention & Deletion
Crew chat messages, the photos and clips attached to them, and planned games are kept for as long as the crew exists. Deleting a message deletes its attached files. Deleting a crew deletes that crew's chat and planned games. Reports are kept for as long as we need them to enforce our Conduct Policy. Waitlist sign-ups are kept until the sports you ticked are live; to be taken off sooner, email info@sideoutsports.net from the address you signed up with.
You can delete your account at any time in the App: tap Me, open Settings, and tap Delete account. It takes effect at once. If you can no longer open the App, email info@sideoutsports.net from the address on your account and we will process the request within 30 days. Deleting your account permanently removes your sign-in, your profile, profile photo, email address and settings, the photos you added to a crew or tournament, your tags in other people's photos, your posts and replies in crew feeds, your push tokens, and your membership and any role in every crew, league and tournament. A crew, league or tournament you created passes to another member.
Some things you shared stay with the people you shared them with, no longer linked to an account: games you played stay in their history under the name you had, so their records still add up; messages you sent in a chat stay in that chat, with any photos or clips attached, as messages in a group text would; and posts and comments in league and tournament feeds stay where you posted them. Copies may remain in encrypted backups for up to 30 days.
5. Data Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), Firebase's built-in security rules, and secure authentication. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
6. Children's Privacy
Sideout is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete such information as quickly as possible. If you believe that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data. To exercise any of these rights, please contact us. California residents may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
8. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than the country in which you reside. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws of your country. By using the Services, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and other countries where our service providers operate.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last Updated" date and, where appropriate, through the App. Your continued use of the Services after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy.
